The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) said Wednesday that it recently convened its fourth Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation Science Council meeting in Washington, D.C.
The meeting addressed the work of the council’s task forces on cyberthreats, foreign travel risk management, and nonproliferation training effectiveness, according to an NNSA statement. The meeting also addressed joint programs with International Science and Technology Centers in Ukraine and Kazakhstan, the agency’s assistance to Iran nuclear deal, global nonproliferation threats, and plans for outreach to the public and lawmakers on nonproliferation, the statement said.
The Science Council, which since 2014 has brought together participants from across the nuclear weapons complex, intends to facilitate communication between senior-level NNSA leadership and officials from the agency’s sites on strategies for the U.S. nonproliferation mission, NNSA said.
