Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) on Wednesday confirmed that the Department of Justice is investigating her congressional campaign for allegedly spending campaign funds on a personal security detail.
Bush, a progressive lawmaker who has advocated for cleaning up Manhattan Project-era radioactive contamination near her St. Louis-area district and compensating residents affected by it, confirmed the investigation in a statement posted on the website X.
“I have complied with all applicable laws and House rules,” Bush wrote in the statement. “These frivolous complaints have resulted in a number of investigations, some of which are still ongoing.”
The Federal Election Commission and the House Committee on Ethics are also investigating the issue, Bush, a two-term Congresswoman, wrote in her statement.
In her statement, Bush said that “right-wing organizations” lodged “baseless complaints” about her husband being a part of her security team. Bush’s husband, she said “has extensive experience in this area and is able to provide the necessary services at or below a fair market rate.”
