Nuclear waste will be at the forefront of the minds of the U.S. Congress this week, with hearings set in both the House and Senate. First the Senate Energy and Natural Resources committee will meet July 30 to consider nuclear waste legislation, introduced in June by a bipartisan group of Senators including the committee chairman Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and ranking member Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz will be among the witnesses testifying at the hearing; the notice for the hearing can be found here. Moniz will also testify at the July 31 House Energy and Commerce committee hearing, on oversight of DOE’s strategy for the management and disposal of used nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste. A notice for the hearing can be found here.
