Consolidated Nuclear Security, which operates the Y-12 National Security Site in Oak Ridge, Tenn., is seeking contractors to undertake a sweeping utilities upgrade at the site.
For the Utility Upgrades and Equipment Project (UUEP), Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) wants a contractor to perform site demolition and preparation and installation of new utilities. CNS wants a single company that can accomplish most of its construction wishlist, outlined Monday in an expression of interest on the federal government’s contracting website.
Y-12 is the National Nuclear Security Administration’s hub for weapons uranium and manufactures the secondary stages of nuclear weapons.
“The purpose of the UUEP is to upgrade the utilities and infrastructure of the existing … facility to support the installation of future production equipment that will allow Y-12 successfully fulfill its role in meeting future mission needs,” according to Monday’s solicitation.
That work will be handled under a base scope contract and comes with an “optional scope” potential follow-on deal that involves future production equipment installation through mid- to late-2024, the notice said.
Design of the Utility Upgrades, which includes commercially off the shelf type utility equipment, is currently being developed by Jacobs Technology, Tullahoma, Tenn.
The Department of Energy plans to release more information about the impending contract and scope of work in coming weeks. Interested bidders should provide general qualifications, related experience and envisioned role by August 27.
