CNS hiring contractors to upgrade Y-12 electrical infrastructure

By ExchangeMonitor

Consolidated Nuclear Security is seeking qualified licensed electrical contractors to replace and upgrade various aging electrical systems at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

The company, contracted to manage both Y-12 and the Pantex Plant in Panhandle, Texas, on behalf of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) will hire multiple contractors under multi-year basic order agreements (BOA) for electrical services, according to an announcement published Wednesday on the federal government’s contracting website.

Built in the midst of World War II, the Y-12’s aging infrastructure includes low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems and data and control systems in need of upgrade\ repair, replacement and/or refurbishments and testing, the call for contractors said.

CNS will award multiple task releases to perform work under the BOA. The orders could call for electrical, instrumentation, and communication work but may include civil and structural, architectural, and mechanical work. Some work may have some deactivation and decontamination, demolition and temporary power and other general site services including escort services for un-cleared workers.

CNS plans to schedule an informational online meeting to share further details, exchange information and answer questions, but has not set a date.
