Consolidated Nuclear Security is seeking a firm to test for leaks in one of its glovebox systems at Y-12 National Security Complex, according to a source sought notice posted Nov. 14 on sam.gov.
The Bechtel National-led manager at the uranium processing hub for deployed nuclear weapons in Oak Ridge, Tenn., estimated in the expression of interest that procurement would be in December with work to start in January. Responses are due by Nov. 30, and Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) will use the responses to draft a request for proposal.
A spokesperson for CNS told the Exchange Monitor in an email that the glovebox system that must be tested was recently installed in a production area, and it protects workers “airborne hazards.”
The field work in the contract is expected to take three to four weeks, but “the contract will need to be in place for some months prior to execution to satisfy submittal requirements,” the spokesperson said. The deliverable would be a test report that complies with document requirements from the American Glovebox Society.
Firms under consideration must hold certifications in certain testing qualifications listed in the notice, and the test performer chosen would undergo CNS-administered site training.
