CNS Chief Isolating At Home After Possible Exposure to COVID-19

By Dan Leone

Morgan Smith, president and CEO for the Department of Enegy’s manager for the Pantex Plant in Texas and Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee, is in quarantine at home after possible exposure to someone who displayed symptoms of COVID-19, sources said Friday.

Smith is isolating at home after coming into proximity with a symptomatic individual at a doctor’s office, according to multiple people. The person to whom Smith was exposed had not tested positive for COVID-19 at deadline Friday for Nuclear Security & Deterrence Monitor.

At least two employees at Y-12 have been confirmed as of this week to have been infected by the novel coronavirus 2019.

Smith joined Consolidated Nuclear Security (CNS) in 2014 as chief operating officer, when the company landed the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Production Office contract. He ascended to the top spot in 2016.

Smith has decades of experience at defense nuclear sites. He was with Bechtel Marine Propulsion before hitching on with the Bechtel-led CNS. Smith is also involved with advocacy for Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration contractors, holding a seat on the board of the Energy Facility Contractors Group, or EFCOG.
