CH2M Hill has been selected as the “most highly qualified” contractor in the procurement for design of the Sludge Processing Facility Buildouts project at the Oak Ridge Transuranic Waste Processing Center. The project will address about 2,000 cubic meters of remote-handled transuranic waste sludge and associated supernate. DOE is seeking the design and construction of a test facility for the treatment systems, as well as the final design for the project and support during the construction and operational readiness review phase of the project.
In this procurement for architect and engineering services for the project, DOE chose the most highly qualified firm based on responses from potential bidders and then will request price proposals starting with the preferred firm. “CH2M Hill was selected as the most highly qualified contractor among those who submitted qualification packages,” DOE Oak Ridge spokesman Mike Koentop said in a written response this week. “We are now in the process of negotiating a contract with CH2M Hill. We are working to award a contract within the next few months.”
DOE plans to conduct a separate procurement for a contract to build and operate the Sludge Processing Facility Buildouts Project. “The Sludge Design to be completed by the A-E contractor will be provided to the Construction Contractor for Construction/Operations. No construction contract may be awarded to the firm that designs the project,” according to a March DOE notice seeking qualifications for the project.
