The Centerra Group started working its protective forces subcontract at the Los Alamos National Laboratory on Wednesday, ending SOC’s 23-year run heading security at the Department of Energy facility. A LANL spokesman said by email that the contract’s base period expires Sept. 30, 2018, but it contains an option for site managing contractor Los Alamos National Security to extend it up to two full additional years. Lab officials said they could not divulge the contract value because it was still procurement-sensitive. Centerra and SOC did not respond to requests for comment.
In 2010, SOC beat Centerra (then WSI) and several other companies to extend its contract until Sept. 15, 2015. LANL released a request for expressions of interest on the protective forces contract in June 2014. The scope of the current contract is essentially the same as the previous contract, with the addition of management, staffing, and implementation of an unmanned aerial system program.
“LANS LLC recently completed a competitive acquisition for protective force services at Los Alamos National Laboratory,” the spokesman said on Sunday. “The acquisition was a Best Value procurement. The acquisition resulted in an award to Centerra Group.”
