Centerra Receives Four-Month Extension as SRS Security Contractor

By Staff Reports

The security contractor at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina received a four-month extension Friday, keeping the company on the job through Feb. 7, 2020.

Centerra-SRS, a subsidiary of Florida-based Centerra, will receive $35.8 million during the extension, the Energy Department said, just three days before the company’s initial 10-year, $990 million deal ended. That contract began in October 2009.

Centerra could remain at SRS another eight months past the extension, via two additional four-month options. It is unclear if the value of those options is the same as the $35.8 million for the first extension. The Energy Department added that it is currently reviewing proposals for the follow-on contract, which is expected to be valued at $1 billion over 10 years. The extension will allow the agency to continue that process.

“To DOE’s knowledge, only Centerra has the requisite knowledge, experience and capabilities to provide these critical highly specialized services without interruption during the acquisition cycle for transition to a new contract,” the agency said in its Friday press release.

Centerra has said it is competing for the next contract.

Centerra-SRS employs roughly 700 workers at the 310-square-mile DOE complex near Aiken, S.C. The company provides a range of security support services, including access control, property protection, law enforcement, cybersecurity, criminal investigations, and traffic control.
