As the world works to decarbonize but fossil energy demand is sustained, carbon capture and storage technology is also likely to be in demand, the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization said Tuesday in its Australia 2030 report. “With high abatement and a global push towards environmentally-friendly operations, Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) has the market conditions required to become economically viable,” the paper says.
CSIRO said that if Australia becomes a leader in CCS, the technology could create a new market for the nation. “This science and technology area could create a new knowledge export market around CCS technology for countries still operating coal fired plants,” according to the report.
