CAPITOL HILL NUCLEAR HEARINGS SET FOR NEXT WEEK

With President Obama’s budget out, budget hearings for the National Nuclear Security Administration and the Pentagon’s nuclear forces are already beginning to ramp up. Acting NNSA Administrator Neile Miller will appear before the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to testify about the NNSA’s Fiscal Year 2014 budget. Also on Wednesday, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Strategic Affairs Madelyn Creedon will testify alongside a handful of Pentagon civilian and military leaders on U.S. nuclear forces. Also testifying at the 2:30 p.m. hearing will be Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Programs Andrew Weber, Global Strike Command chief Lt. Gen. James Kowalski, Assistant Chief of Staff, Strategic Deterrence and Nuclear Integration Maj. Gen Garrett Harencak, and Navy Strategic Systems Programs Director Rear Adm. Terry Benedict.
