Gary Camper was appointed president of Lynchburg, Va.-based BWX Technologies subsidiary Nuclear Operations Group, the company said in a press release Tuesday.
Nuclear Operations Group’s mission is to manufacture nuclear reactor parts and fuel for naval submarines and aircraft carriers, which is BWX Technologies’ (BWXT) main business segment, the press release said.
According to BWXT’s 2023 10-K form, the government operations segment, which includes naval nuclear reactor manufacturing from Nuclear Operations Group, earned $2.031 billion in annual revenue in 2023, or about 81% of BWXT’s total 2023 revenue of $2.5 billion.
Camper would lead around 5,000 employees in manufacturing these nuclear components.
The majority of Camper’s 40-year career was spent at BWX Technologies (BWXT), specifically in the manufacturing site in Lynchburg, Va. He most recently served as the chief operating officer of the Nuclear Operations Group since 2019, according to a spokesperson for BWXT in an email to the Monitor. Prior to that role, Camper served as the vice president of contracts and procurement at BWXT.
Camper has worked on engineering, operating, quality control and project management for BWXT and Nuclear Operations Group, and also earned a bachelor’s of science degree from Old Dominion University.
BWXT will take over the agency’s contract for management of the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, Texas in November, and also just won a domestic uranium enrichment contract from the National Nuclear Security Administration.
