The president and CEO of Lynchburg, Va.,- based BWX Technologies said Monday he expects a legal protest over a potential $45-billion Department of Energy liquid waste contract will be “sorted out” within a few months.
Rex Geveden offered his take on the court battle over the Integrated Tanks Contract at the Hanford Site in Washington state in response to a question from a Wall Street analyst Monday. Geveden led a conference call with analysts following the release of BWXT’s quarterly earnings results.
“We will see what happens, but I would expect it to get sorted out probably in the next quarter or so,” Geveden said.
BWXT is the lead partner in Hanford Tank Waste Operations and Closure (H2C), which also includes Amentum and Fluor. The second round of litigation brought by the losing bidder Hanford Tank Disposition Alliance, which is a team of AtkinsRéalis, Jacobs and Westinghouse, is before U.S. Court of Federal Claims Judge Marian Blank Horn.
H2C first won the contract in April 2023. “Judge Horn in federal claims court sent it back to DOE for corrective actions because there were problems with both bids,” Geveden said. “We re-proposed, …. submitted new proposals and were selected again. That selection was protested and is now in the hands of the court.”
