B&W is laying off approximately 80 employees this week in a move the company says is intended to help result in a “more efficient and leaner” organization. The layoffs, announced in a company message issued yesterday and obtained by WC Monitor, include employees from B&W Technical Services Group, B&W Nuclear Energy Inc., B&W Power Generation Group and corporate support functions. “B&W employees remain this company’s greatest asset. The reality is that each of our businesses and Corporate groups must be appropriately sized for our current and projected workload, ensure our costs competitively position us to win work in our global markets and deliver results that meet our shareholders’ expectations,” B&W President and CEO Jim Ferland said in the message to employees.
B&W may also conduct additional workforce “adjustments” in the next three-to-four months as it works to make “organizational, process or other operational improvements that will lower the cost of doing business across the company,” Ferland said, adding: “I have every expectation that we will reach a more steady state of operation by the end of the year.”
