Biden would pass three-month stopgap if it reached his desk, CR as soon as Wednesday 

President Joe Biden (D) would pass a funding bill that would freeze federal budgets at 2024 levels through Dec. 20, a White House statement said Tuesday.

“The Administration calls for swift passage of this bill in both chambers of the Congress to avoid a costly,  unnecessary Government shutdown and to ensure there is adequate time to pass full-year [fiscal year] 2025 appropriations bills later this year,” the statement said.

The bill is listed on the House majority leader’s weekly schedule under “Wednesday, September 25 and the Balance of the Week” as “legislation considered under suspension of the rules.” 

Without a temporary funding bill, the federal government will partially shut down on Oct. 1, the beginning of the government’s 2025 fiscal year.

The stopgap spending bill Biden endorsed would not allow Department of Energy nuclear programs to exceed their 2024 budgets during the first three months or so of fiscal year 2025.
