The Energy Department is extending the deadline for bids on the paramilitary security services contract at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina from April 22 until May 7.
In a question-and-answer exchange posted online April 5, a prospective contractor asked for a two-week extension, noting the pre-bid meeting and tour on March 26, “coupled with Good Friday and Easter holidays just prior to the current due date.” Such a tight schedule makes it tough to come up with a “comprehensive and compliant proposal,” the unidentified vendor said.
In response, the department said it “will amend the RFP to extend the proposal due date to May 7th at 2:00 PM EDT.”
The agency on March 22 issued its request for proposals for a contract for up to 10 years and $1 billion. The current $990 million contract held by Centerra-SRS started in October 2009 and runs through Oct. 7. Parent firm Centerra Group wants to keep the business.
Documents posted on the Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center website indicate 23 people attended the site tour and industry day. Attendees included representatives from E2 Consulting Engineers, SOC, Centerra, Spectra Tech, Westech International, Veolia Nuclear Services, Paragon Systems, Innovative Partnership, Six Maritime, and Juno Management Professionals.
The winning contractor will protect the safety and security of contractors, employees, and the general public at both National Nuclear Security Administration and DOE Office of Environmental Management facilities at SRS. The site covers about 310 square miles near Aiken. S.C.
