Australian Howard Bamsey, a veteran of climate change issues and former director general of the Global Green Growth Institute, has been named executive director of the Green Climate Fund. Bamsey takes the reins from Javier Manzanares, the fund’s chief financial officer, who has served as interim executive director since the resignation of Hela Cheikhrouhou in June. “The decision was taken by consensus during the Board’s fourteenth meeting, following an extensive global recruitment process to select a new head of the Secretariat,” a GCF release says.
The GCF was established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to provide financial support for climate-resilient and low-emissions development in developing countries.
