The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization and the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration signed a memorandum of understanding that seeks to solidify the nuclear security and relationship between the two countries.
The memorandum was signed during the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency’s International Conference on Nuclear Security in Vienna last week, according to a press release.
The Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organization (ANSTO) aims to strengthen its nuclear science capabilities, enhance nuclear security, and support training in the nuclear workforce through this memorandum with the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
“ANSTO deeply values the collaboration between the United States and Australia in nuclear security capabilities, which has been reflective of our long-standing partnership between our two countries,” Miles Apperley, ANSTO’s group executive for nuclear security, safety, and safeguards, said in the press release for the organization.
According to the ANSTO press release, NNSA and ANSTO have partnered for over 10 years in nuclear science and forensics with aims to determine the origin of radioactive materials and deliver training programs to other countries.
