The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has given the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility project a clean bill of health for the fifth straight year. In a report released last month, the NRC said it found no violations by MOX contractor CB&I AREVA MOX Services Inc. and was pleased with how the project is progressing. “The NRC determined that the MFFF was being constructed in a manner that preserved public health and safety and was consistent with the Commission’s rules and regulations,” the NRC said in a March 12 letter. It also said that MOX Services “adequately monitored and assessed onsite construction activities. The corrective action program implementation activities, including initiation, classification, disposition, adequacy in the documentation, and trending were deemed satisfactory.”
MOX Services said it was the fifth year that the NRC found no areas of improvement for the project. “Everyone associated with the MOX Project can take pride in this accomplishment,” CB&I AREVA MOX Services President and Project Manager David Del Vecchio said in a statement. “For the past five years, we have been diligent in our efforts to ensure we are in complete compliance with the NRC and the US government, and this is a testament to our hard work.” The company noted that in February it surpassed 21 million consecutive hours without a lost workday due to injury.
