The Department of Energy this week exercised a set of options worth $104 million in URS-CH2M Oak Ridge’s (UCOR) cleanup contract at Oak Ridge. The options cover work including D&D activities at a number of facilities at the East Tennessee Technology Park, such as K-1037, the Central Neutralization Facility, the Toxic Substance Control Act Incinerator (TSCAI) and the Centrifuge Facilities, according to Mike Koentop, executive officer of DOE’s Office of Environmental Management at Oak Ridge. “We chose to exercise these options now to allow UCOR to do the necessary planning to ensure the cleanup scope is completed in the most efficient way,” Koentop said in a written response late this week.
In a press release, James Taylor, executive vice president and general manager of AECOM’s nuclear and environment business unit, said, “We are grateful for DOE’s confidence in our performance and in our UCOR employees, as expressed through this exercised work scope.” He added, "We will continue our momentum in completing cleanup of the East Tennessee Technology Park and move forward with other critical initiatives designed to support cleanup and preserve the history of this site."
