The state of Tennessee is changing the leadership of its Department of Energy Oversight Office in Oak Ridge, with Chris Thompson succeeding long-time manager John Owsley in the top position. Kelly Brockman, spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, confirmed this week that Thompson had been named deputy director of TDEC’s Division of Remediation and would assume the lead role in the Oak Ridge office. Owsley will remain at the office and serve as a senior advisor, she said. “Chris’s diverse technical and managerial experience as an environmental engineer and management professional for the past three decades make her uniquely qualified for this new role,” TDEC said in a statement.

Thompson worked at the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site in South Carolina for 15 years earlier in her career, holding positions in environmental compliance and other areas. She also worked as a consultant on other projects, including the West Valley Demonstration Project in New York state. She has a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Clemson University.
