Los Alamos National Laboratory is providing an extra two weeks to prepare proposals to companies interested in bidding on a new task order being competed under the lab’s Master Task Order Agreement-2, which covers sorting, segregating, and repacking of drums containing transuranic (TRU) waste. Bids on the new task had initially been due Jan. 20, but because of the difficulties some companies had in accessing the Request for Proposals, Los Alamos has decided to extend the due date to Feb. 3, according to lab spokesman Fred deSousa. “Although all bidders were notified of the RFP on 12/23/2013, size limitations within our electronic file transfer site and the LANL holiday shutdown resulted in some bidders not receiving the full RFP package until 1/06/2014. Consequently, bidders have been granted a due date extension of two weeks to February 3rd, 2014,” de Sousa said in a written response. The task order being competed has a ceiling value of approximately $30 million and is set to run for up to five years, consisting of a three-year base period and two one-year options, according to deSousa. The four MTOA-2 holders include Environmental Dimensions Inc., North Wind Inc., Navarro Research and Engineering Inc. and Portage.

Kim Davis Lebak is taking over as the manager of the Los Alamos Field Office, shifting to the role from the top federal spot at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She replaces Kevin Smith, who took over as head of the Department of Energy’s Office of River Protection at Hanford in early 2013. Lebak has served as the head of the Lawrence Livermore Field Office since January 2012, and previously served as the Deputy Site Office Manager at Sandia National Laboratories. She also has worked at DOE and NNSA headquarters as well as at the Pantex and Savannah River field offices. “With her strong leadership skills and wide experience at both headquarters and in the field, Kim is perfect as our Los Alamos Field Office Manager,” acting NNSA Administrator Bruce Held said in a statement. “Secretary Moniz and I believe that Kim and Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Charlie McMillan will make a great team in promoting mission excellence in science, security, nuclear safety and project management.”
