Kansas City Plant contractor Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies is planning to trim its workforce by 84 employees, a spokesperson said this week. Honeywell spokeswoman Shaunda Parks said the plant’s move out of the Bannister Federal Complex and into a new home “necessitated” the reduction of the employees in late March. She also said changes in federally-funded programs drove the decision to trim its workforce in the areas of facilities, maintenance, production, and quality. “We’ve made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce at the National Security Campus (NSC),” Parks said. “Our move to the smaller, more efficient facility, as well as changes in federally-funded programs, necessitated the reduction of 84 employees in late March. We respect and value our employees and are trying to limit the impact by offering those in affected positions the opportunity to volunteer for layoff.”
In a message to employees this week, Honeywell FM&T President Chris Gentile said the contractor has been “judicious and strategic” in its staffing over the last few years to minimize the workforce impact of the new facility, which was designed to be more efficient and require fewer employees than the plant’s old home. “Making the decision to reduce our workforce has been difficult, and I can assure you it was taken with great care, working to minimize the impact as much as possible,” Gentile said. Honeywell will complete the move to its new home later this year, and it is expected to provide $100 million in yearly savings.
