Klotz to Make First Visit to Plant on July 8

National Nuclear Security Administration chief Frank Klotz will continue his tour of the weapons complex when he visits the Kansas City Plant July 8. Klotz’s visit will be timed with the completion of an 18-month move from the plant’s former home, the Bannister Federal Complex, to a new 1.5 million square foot facility about eight miles to the south. Site contractor Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies had previously said it planned to complete the move July 10, about a month ahead of schedule, but that work will be completed by the time Klotz makes his visit July 8.

Klotz visited the Pantex Plant this week, and toured the Y-12 National Security Complex last week. He previously visited the Nevada National Security Site, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Sandia National Laboratories during a trip in early May. He has yet to visit Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory or the Savannah River Site, but he said last week that he intends to try to visit all the sites in the complex during the first 100 days as NNSA administrator.
