Applications Open for ONE Waste Management Chief

By ExchangeMonitor

The Department of Energy’s Office of Nuclear Energy has officially started the job hunt for someone to run its spent fuel and waste disposal program, according to federal want ad posted Wednesday.

Anyone interested in becoming the Office of Nuclear Energy’s (ONE) deputy assistant secretary for its spent fuel and waste disposition program can apply now via USAJobs, acting ONE assistant secretary Katy Huff said Wednesday morning via Tweet.

Huff added that the senior executive-level position is “open to the public.”

The new deputy assistant secretary would “provide leadership and expertise in managing the national program that utilizes national laboratory, universities and industry assets to develop an integrated waste management system needed to store, transport, and dispose of” nuclear waste, according to the job description.

The new waste management chief would also head up the Joe Biden administration’s “congressionally directed” interim storage initiative, the job description said.

Applicants have only two weeks to throw their hats in the ring — the application period closes August 4.

William Boyle is currently serving as the acting deputy assistant secretary for ONE’s waste management program.
