Amentum was selected by ČEZ, an energy utility based in the Czech Republic, to support its new nuclear program by advancing plans for two small modular reactors (SMR), as stated in an April 8 press release.
Amentum, based in Chantilly, VA, will be tasked to deliver two environmental impact assessment (EIA) reports regarding the proposals of the SMR sites with Rolls-Royce SMR, a U.K. subsidiary company to Rolls-Royce Holdings. The EIAs will cover criteria such as potential radiological hazards, waste management, and accident conditions and consequences.
The two proposed Czech sites listed in the press release are Temelin, where a gigawatt nuclear plant operates at, and Tušimice, a coal-fired plant which is due for decommissioning.
The company said its nuclear and project management specialists based in Brno, a city in the Czech Republic, will carry out the EIA reports. Additionally, the EIA reports will be subjected to a public hearing and independent assessment prior to the opportunity of being formally approved by the Czech Ministry of Environment.
Amentum has already performed initial scoping studies for the two sites and won the contract to complete the full reports after a public tender, the company said in the press release.
In October 2024, ČEZ agreed to take a 20% stake in Rolls-Royce SMR and the two companies intend to deploy up to three gigawatts (3,000 megawatts) of electricity in the Czech Republic using Rolls-Royce SMR power plants.
According to ČEZ, each Rolls-Royce SMR power station is expected to produce 470MWe.
