President Joe Biden announced Wednesday he has forwarded the nomination of Frank Kendall III to be secretary of the Air Force to the Senate.
The nomination has been referred to the Senate Armed Services Committee. The White House announced Tuesday that Kendall, a former acquisition official at the Pentagon, is the administration’s pick as the next secretary of the Air Force.
Kendall, an Army veteran, last worked at the Pentagon as undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics from 2012 to 2017. During that period he dealt with key Air Force programs such as the F-35 and B-21 aircraft. Kendall currently works as a consultant.
Likewise, the White House announced Wednesday it has forwarded the nomination of Heidi Shyu, the Army’s former lead acquisition executive, to be the next undersecretary of defense for Research and Engineering. The Shyu nomination will also be considered by Senate Armed Services.
Shyu was the Army’s top acquisition executive from September 2012 to January 2016 and is now a consultant.
