The lead parent company for Savannah River Remediation (SRR), the Savannah River Site’s liquid waste contractor, participated last week in a pre-solicitation event attended by parties interested in taking over that work once the current deal expires in June 2017. “AECOM is extremely interested in continuing our success in cleaning up SRS, specifically within the liquid waste program,” said Keith Wood, AECOM’s vice president of marketing and communications.
URS was originally SRR’s lead parent company until acquired by AECOM in a $4 billion deal in July 2014. The other parent companies are Bechtel National, CH2M, and BWXT. Critical subcontractors for the contract are AREVA and EnergySolutions. Wood did not say if the other companies are joining AECOM in an attempt to renew the contract, but each of the companies were represented during an industry day event in October where information on the liquid waste contract was first presented. Other companies that attended the event include Fluor Corp. and Newport News Nuclear, two of the parent companies for Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), the Savannah River Site’s management and operations contractor. Westinghouse, Parsons, and other companies with current and past ties to SRS also attended the October event.
The pre-solicitation event last week month included about 90 people representing both large and small businesses, according to Energy Department spokeswoman Sonya Goines. Goines didn’t give a specific number but added that the complete registration list will be posted on the department’s procurement website in the near future. All of the parties are showing early interest in competing for the SRS liquid waste contract, which will be worth approximately $6 billion over 10 years. That term is made up of a seven-year base and an option to renew for the remaining three years.
