AECOM Revenue Nears $5B in 1Q

By Wayne Barber

Department of Energy contractor AECOM on Tuesday reported $4.9 billion in revenue for the first quarter of its fiscal year, ended Dec. 31, 2017. That was 12.7 percent higher than the $4.35 billion recorded in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2016.

The Los Angeles-based global infrastructure company reported quarterly net income and diluted earnings per share of $111 million and $0.69, respectively. That was more than double the year-ago figures of $47 million and $0.30, according to AECOM.

AECOM’s Management Services unit, which includes its Energy Department Office of Environmental Management business, reported revenue of $843 million in the most recent quarter. That rose 10 percent from $767 million on a year-over-year basis.

Company-wide, AECOM expects its adjusted earnings per share for the year to be in the range of $2.50-to-$2.90.

The company’s Department of Energy environmental business didn’t generate much comment during the quarterly conference call with financial analysts.

There was no mention of the bid protest by AECOM and joint venture partner CH2M of the $4.7 billion Savannah River Site liquid waste management contract awarded to a rival team in October. The Government Accountability Office revealed on its website Friday it had sustained the bid protest challenge brought by AECOM and others, although the final decision is still under protective order.

Executives also did not discuss the pending end, currently scheduled for Sept. 30, of the management and operations contract for the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. AECOM is a corporate partner in incumbent Los Alamos National Security, but reportedly did not bid on the follow-on contract expected to be awarded this spring.

Outside the DOE market, AECOM has teamed with nuclear services provider EnergySolutions, of Salt Lake City, on a $1 billion contract to act as general contractor for the decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in California.“This job also continues to progress well,” AECOM Chief Operating Officer Randall Wotring said during the call, without offering details.
